twilight time of day

After a stellar Autumn day in Bend, Oregon, I went out on my back deck to take in the twilight-cooled, dry, pine-scented air. After living on the coast for so many years and accustomed to the feeling and sound of the ocean's moist breath, this environment has its own particular flavor. The ground is tough, rocky and decorated by withered needles that fall almost invisibly from supremely proud-looking evergreens. A fine dust, the remains of once terrifying volcanoes or eroded desert sands, paints surfaces and sky with an ochre and sienna tinge.
For me this place is new, neither better nor more magical than living amidst the seagull's call, but for now, bathed in this early evening radiance, I am fortunate to call this home.

Landing on this photo, I thought it was skywatch friday! Lovely! In one week, you have shown more diversity in nature than I have seen in months. Snow??? I'm not ready for it. Stop by my blog on Saturday to see black walnuts. That is my contribution to "nature."

I can almost smell the pines, myself.

Gorgeous capture, Lee! We have such similar views from our decks -- yours in Bend and mine in Seattle, but the same sky! Marvelous!

Have a great weekend!

Beauty in the sky and beauty in your words...so glad that you have found happiness where you are...so many people think it's always someplace else. But if you can't be happy where you are, it is unlikely you'll be happy anywhere else...

Lovely shot. Back deck, heh? Lucky you!

There are views like this and sunsets that beautiful here too, but so often people don't see the beauty that is all around them all the time. What you seem to be doing with your pictures and blog posts is waking people up to the beauty around them. At least that's how it works for me.

In fact, just before I started writing this I went out onto my front porch and saw something amazing I hadn't noticed before. I think I'll go take a picture of it so I can show it to you.

It seems so amazing that nature's magic doesn't diminish each time we see it. It's always different, or we've forgotten how affecting it was before. It's always new. Thanks for this extraordinarily beautiful post.

Lee, I'm not sure what that article was about exactly but I do know that a lot of koala habitat is threatened by urban sprawl. It's terrible and a lot of Australian native species are threatened or endangered.
