The wait begins

This week the ski shops in Bend, Oregon will be doing a brisk business as folks plan for the upcoming Winter season. It is a time to buy new skis or and get old ones waxed and tuned. Snowboarding enthusiasts as well need bindings and boards serviced.. Colorful weather-resilient clothing clog the aisles adjacent cluttered shelves of helmets, goggles and masks. The economy thrives on a good snow season. Coffee stands, hotels, restaurants and bars, clothing stores and the resort itself need the white stuff to fall long and often. Sometimes Mt Bachelor, pictured above, in some years, opens as early as Thanksgiving. At the moment there is only a light dusting on the summit. Soon this lovely ancient volcano, as tantalizing as a delicious vanilla ice cream cone, will host to an array of colorfully-clad guests from all over. I'll snap some pictures to share of this wonderland when the party begins.

Yep, same thing going on here. And tonight there is a forecast of over a foot of snow in the passes and some in the foothills. Sometimes we are considered the foothills.
Hard to believe but while Stanwood proper is at 5ft elevation where I live is almost at 1000ft elevation. strange, eh? MB

It looks a bit nude, but not embarrassed. Seems it usually wears more of a white mantle. It will be interesting to see the transformation in your pix this year.

I can almost feel the sense of anticipation people there must be feeling. I hope it'll be a good season for everyone! And what a majestic mountain!

Sure wish I had the knees for it. It always was so much fun.

Let the party begin! We're so far removed from anything remotely like skiing that it is great fun to share your fun visually!

I feel like a total eejit, I've never skied.
Thank you for telling me that you go unarmed. I'm going to be able to discuss the point with a friend in the PN who says never to go on hikes unarmed because of cougars, mountain lions etc, etc.

Such beautiful scenery. A snow capped mountain is not something familiar to me. I would have to travel a long distance from Sydney to see that. Thanks for your positve feedback on my blog.
